The work "Bi-Leaf" explores a textile-based hinge mechanism. Compliant mechanisms from nature and technology were used as inspiration for the 3D and 4D printed samples. The work focuses on movement itself. By playing with form and colour, the same motion sequence becomes an independent bistable body in each exhibit. The classic hinge, consisting of a rotation axis and two hinge leaves, is deconstructed. The rotation axis and the hinge leaves fuse to form a moving unit of skeletal structure and double-curved membrane. The mechanism itself is manifested as a body and designed in terms of scale, modularity and aesthetics.

The project involved a guide to 3D printing and one for 4D printing (3D printing on tensioned textiles).
